There are thousands of online dating sites on the Internet - and I've joined many of them myself - but I've had my best results with free online dating services where the only investment is my imagination.

There are many other advantages to free online dating sites too. For one thing, you can target your audience in single cities - or even in neighborhoods - and getting your ads online can be accomplished in less than 10 minutes!

Take Craigs List for example. This is a bulletin board service which allows free posts in hundreds of cities throughout the world. And because Craigs List has virtually no limit on the number of words in your ads, you can truly get creative and write up a storm - and literally dazzle your audience line by line.

That's exactly what I've done myself. I've been meeting women online for more than 15 years and I've placed hundreds of ads worldwide. But I always come back to the Bulletin Board ads for their convenience, flexibility, and almost immediate gratification.

Here are some observations - and online dating tips - when using free internet dating strategies like mine.

My Advice For Women

Ladies, there are thousands of "professionals" using free online dating services too. So you'll want to distinguish your ads from those with more commercial interests at heart. My advice to you is to include sufficient detail in your ads so the guys make no mistake about their knowing you're for real.

Some of the dead giveaways of a "professional" type ad is that they're generally rather short (five sentences for example) and they often sound too much like a "formula." For example:

"I moved into this new neighborhood recently...been really bored. I want to meet some new guys. I am sick of flings. I am sick of getting my heart broken. My ex-boyfriend was a jerk and I just want to meet nice guy. I'm crossing my fingers that this new experience online will work out. I am loving person and just want to meet 'Mr. Right' if there is such a thing."

The first thing you'll notice about the ad above are the grammatical errors. This by itself isn't necessarily a red flag, but when you combine this with the lack of detail and originality - with no reference whatsoever to anything that would tie the author to this city - what starts to crystallize is the possibility that whomever submitted this ad isn't necessarily looking for a relationship!

So my first suggestion is to let go of the stereotypical five-sentence Online Personal Ad - and instead write more from the heart - including details which clearly communicate that you're a real person!

When writing ads to meet men, provide enough detail to show a man that you've got a variety of interests - but don't write in a demanding way, listing dozens of qualifications he must have before dropping you a line. That practice, which I've seen often enough, is a real turn-off to the guys. You don't want to give men the impression that you're conducting interviews for a job - unless you don't care if many of the higher caliber men simply click off your ad and search for a warmer climate down the page.

My Advice for Men

Hey guys, listen up! Everyone knows that men want sex - so what else is new? But there's no reason to broadcast this in your ads! Keep the language "poetic" if you catch my drift here. Women generally aren't as blunt as guys are, especially in writing or responding to ads. But this doesn't make women frigid. Talk in metaphors; use colorful imaginative language. Or better yet, make only a fleeting reference to sex in your ads - and do so in one sentence that you combine with something more emotional too.

Here's an example of what NOT to do:

boys just want to have fun - 27

"so just thought i would see if there are any fun loving girls out there who are down to gettin to know a good clean drama free guy.... looking to meet up every now and than for a nice hot passionate session..."

This dude gets right to the point, doesn't he.

When it comes to online dating, don't let your hormones get the better of you guys! Women want loving just like we do, but generally they're not as blatant about it, that's all.

Instead, write about your interests outside of the bedroom. Charm your readers with your accomplishments... mention books you like to read... or include something funny. Women love it when a guy can make her laugh! So if you can be that guy, you'll score more points than the writer above, any day.

My Advice to Everyone

An imaginative, original ad is your fastest road to success with Online Dating. Some of my quirkiest ads have given me my best results (i.e., the greatest number of replies). Create a unique "persona" for yourself in each ad and you'll not only have your readers laughing, you'll get some really appreciate comments too. Isn't that what the syndicated comics do? And think about how many people are reading them - week after week!

Sound general quarters ordered Captain Rockwell Torrey played by John Wayne in Otto Premingers classic World War II movie In Harms Way. The movie depicts the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan.

Captain Torrey gave the order to sound general quarters when it was reported to him that a formation of airplanes was north of the island of Oahu in Hawaii and another formation of airplanes was off diamond head. Captain Torrey perceived such formations to be a possible threat. He emphasized that it was not a drill and that all men on board were to go to their battle stations. A call to general quarters is a signal to the crew on a navy war ship to prepare for battle.

Prepare for Spiritual Battle

When a call to general quarters sounds, all members of the ships crew, including off duty or sleeping crew members, must drop whatever they are doing and report immediately to their assigned stations and prepare for action. Security is increased in sensitive areas such as the bridge and engineering rooms. The main goal is to be prepared for whatever danger the ship and its crew may encounter. The purpose of this article is to show how we Christians must be vigilant in being prepared for our spiritual battle with our enemy Satan the devil.

Sound the Alarm

Just as the captain of a naval war ship gives an order to sound general quarters as an alarm when a possible battle is imminent, God gave instructions to Judah through the prophet Joel to sound an alarm before the day of the LORD. Christians are spiritual Jews (Romans 2:28-29) and we can learn from what is written in the prophets.

Joel 2:1

"1Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand" (KJV)

The priests had the duty to sound the trumpet (Numbers 10:8). The trumpet served as an alarm to the people to come together to seek God. It is the duty of Gods ministers and teachers to warn about the consequences of sin and to call for repentance. What does God instruct the people to do when they hear the alarm?

Joel 2:12-14

"12Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: 13And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. 14Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?" (KJV)

God will relent from inflicting punishment if we repent and turn to God with all our hearts. The fasting, weeping, and mourning indicate the depth of sorrow for sin. If we turn to God and resist Satan, he will flee from us as shown in James 4:7-8

"7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." (KJV)

Sneak Attacks from Satan

Our enemy, Satan the devil goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8). Satan plans sneak attacks on us individually and collectively when we least expect it just as the Japanese navy attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the day that President Franklin Roosevelt said would live in infamy. If we resist Satan by drawing near to God, Satan will flee from us as shown above in James 4:7.

However, he will look for a time when we are weak to return and tempt us again just as he came back to tempt Christ again after he had defeated Satan with the word of God (Luke 4:13). Therefore, we always have to be watchful so that our enemy does not sneak up on us.

Conclusion

Just as the call to general quarters as depicted in the movie In Harms Way was not a drill, neither is this life. We are engaged in a real battle with our enemy Satan the devil. We must resist him. We must carry out the mission that Jesus Christ the captain of our salvation has given us.

If we have been sleeping or if we have taken ourselves off duty, it is time to hear the call to general quarters, wake up spiritually, and report to our assignment. Every Christian must fight the temptations of Satan the Devil. We should report to our battle stations and be ready always to defeat Satan. We should seek God's help in fighting our spiritual battles. If we seek God through repentance and prayer, he will give us the spiritual strength we need to defeat Satan. That is good news.

The traffic light turned yellow and my dad eased off the accelerator to let the big blue Oldsmobile super 88 coast to a smooth stop. It was a glorious Sunday morning in the fall of 1957; I was ten years old and thought he knew everything anyone could know. A transplant, from the rural south, he was drawn to Detroit after hearing Henry Ford was paying all workers equal pay for equal work. Mr. Ford kept his word and precipitated one of the largest migrations of population in U.S history. The descendant children of the nation's former slaves relocated to Detroit and other big cities of the northern United States to work in the auto industry.

Our nation freed its slaves in 1863 but without money, education or training most were forced to return to their former owners as sharecroppers. The sharecroppers were required to work the land and exist on whatever meager compensation the former slave owners wished to give. They lived on the land in impoverished conditions and because they had been sold like cattle, for hundreds of years, a great number did not know where or who their parents, brothers and sisters were. Children had been routinely sold away from their parents and most, old enough to work when freedom came, had no survival skills. Those, young and old, who would not return to their former slave owners, pillaged the land and stole to eat and feed the very young.

By the time my dad was born, in 1902, some family ties had been reestablished but the identity of blood relatives prior to 1863 was lost forever. Some black historians and educators have been able to locate bills of sale and other artifacts that sufficiently described slaves for their blood relatives to be identified today. But for most slave descendants, these blood relationships can only be discovered through DNA testing.

Dad was a sharecropper on the land of the family who had owned his father when news of Henry Ford's promise came to him; he made the decision to come to Detroit. The first place my parents lived in Michigan was a little four room house on Beaubien Street. Dad worked hard and was very proud to be a citizen of Detroit. On our Sunday morning drives, to church, he would always point out the Ford plant at Piquette and Woodward saying the first model T came off the assembly line there and that Detroit had the first traffic light in the nation. Dad loved Boston Coolers, made with vanilla ice cream and ginger ale. He claimed the drink was named after Detroit's Boston Boulevard, not the city in Massachusetts.

The city of Detroit has a rich history and should be proud of the way it helped change the living standards, hopes and aspirations for education, of a disenfranchised people.

Over the past 40 years the city has fallen on tough economic times as a result of a shift of its tax base to the suburbs, corporate reduction in its manufacturing base and competition with a global economy. However, the economic pain is intensified by the city's lack of effective leadership. The city's mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick is facing trial for lying under oath in a whistle blowers law suit. He is implicated in numerous scandals involving bid rigging, police misconduct, perjury, adultery and the suspicious murders of not one, but two strippers. The only thing he has not been accused of, yet, is betraying Christ. Judas still holds that distinction.

Detroit's City Council President Pro-Tem Monica Conyers had to be physically restrained at a city pension board meeting after she threatened to get a gun and shoot an aide to Mayor Kilpatrick. According to published reports, in the Detroit News and Free Press, Mrs. Conyers has been questioned by police in the past. Most notably, she started a bar fight by punching another woman in the eye and she pulled a gun and threatened to shoot her 10 year old son. She has had many vocal outbursts in open council meetings, once calling council President Kenneth Cockrel, Jr. "Shrek" after saying he was disrespectful to her. Also, in a recent development an aide to Cockrel resigned after being caught on tape, by the F.B.I, accepting a bribe.

Based on the behavior of these public officials and the level of paralysis in Detroit city government one must conclude effective leadership is absent in the city's halls of government. How do we know they are not effective leaders? We know they are not effective leaders because effective leaders are always moving on a positive path. Effective leaders are good listeners who seek to understand then to be understood. They tell the truth and keep their promises. They speak plainly and instinctively simplify big ideas. They understand and are able to articulate the feelings of their audience and begin many of their sentences with the pronoun "We".

True leaders are specific in their statements, even using stories and anecdotes to explain more clearly what they are communicating. Real leaders are aware of not only the tone of their verbal communication but of non-verbal communication like gestures, posture, facial expressions, energy, tone of voice, and a thousand other tiny, unspoken elements which actually carry the true and specific meaning of any communication. Effective leadership is able to communicate complex ideas that listeners can follow. True leaders have a knack for sharing the form of their thoughts as well as the content. They don't demand, as Monica Conyers did, but command respect. They always speak in strong, crisp, clear tones that vary in texture, color and range. The concerns and interests of the audience are always foremost in their minds. Great leadership is hopeful and seeks the higher self in all of us. The casual observer must conclude that most of our current national and local leadership closely resembles Detroit's. Why? Because most appear to use political capital to punish those who oppose them and reward yes men. They make critical decisions that are based on private agendas and not the interest of the American people or their local constituency. Americans obviously believe the behavior is American politics and representative of our traditional leadership. We accept the behavior by returning most of the pretend leaders and scoundrels to office. In reality the opposite is true; these individuals are not and have never been true leaders, because they fail to demonstrate the character or qualities of leadership.

The legal, political, social and economic quagmire in Washington and Detroit are good examples of what happens when real leadership is not at the helm of government. It is a sure recipe for disaster. Individuals who lack leadership and are elected to high office will always undermine cooperation and harmony while presiding over the hellish environment they create. They will always seek to destroy descent.

In today's world, great leaders are recognized by the positive effects they have on people. They promote teamwork, encourage excellence, foster growth and even offer criticism in a productive way. As American citizens we have a duty to ourselves and our children, to elect public officials that demonstrate the character and qualities of leadership discussed here.

Writers and newscasters need to beware of trying too hard to be politically correct. The first and last stops on the politically-correct diamonds' train line are stations called "Censorship" and "Manipulation."

From its official commencement date in 2003, in order for a country to be a participant, it must ensure that any diamond originating from the country does not finance an entity seeking to overthrow a UN-recognized government, or a rebel group. KPCS also mandates that every diamond export be accompanied by a Kimberley Process certificate proving that no diamond is imported from, or exported to, a non-member of the scheme. In the corporate world, that is called "restraint of trade." When Uncle Gates tried something similar, other computer programme sellers filed suit and won.

So if a poor farmer finds a diamond and tries to exercise his legal rights under fair trade laws, in the diamond industry, unless he sells it to the governing organization or member, the world is warned that he will commit diamond treason.

When I checked the data at the U.N, I saw brochures with the continent of Africa with messages and drawings implying that persons other than their authorized sellers who tried to sell rough diamonds, could and most likely would use the monies to finance revolutions.

As a reporter news-hound, when I computed the cost of printing the brochures and the cost of the advertisement campaign, I decided to do some investigative digging. It is my duty to dig. First of all, poor farmers work an average of 16 hours per day, risking their lives in some cases, trying to find one piece of rock big enough to feed their families. They do so in an environment where such entrepreneurial acts are prohibited or controlled mostly. Secondly, the odds are not in their favour; thirdly, the last time I checked the price of an automatic attack rifle, it would take a village of approximately10,000 people working approximately 20 hours per day for at least 10 years to find enough diamonds to purchase 100 semi-automatic rifles.

A very troubling and recurring unanswered question caused me to pursue the truth. I found wonderful research by fellow journalists, documenting their results that germs, as opposed to people, were responsible for, and will continue to cause the rape of Africa. Others posit that the discovery of steel caused the nation to slice downwards, and others still, believe and teach that guns (by themselves)did the damage.

I have no way of challenging their hypotheses, nor would I. However, I have found over 50 prophecies in the Hebrew Torah about a branch of Abraham's seed predestined to be shipped by sea and enslaved for 400 year-periods. The people and resources would be plundered repeatedly. However the texts did not say how that would happen. The Torah only gave the duration of the rape and plunder. Finding the scriptural prophecies were not sufficient for me, I needed to understand the type of human spirit that would enslave a people and brazenly take their resources, devalue their currencies, and then warn people not to buy their goods unless the seed of the people who did the aforementioned approved the sale. What is more alarming is that the world body politic accepts that without challenge. Something very deep and sinister has to be functioning beneath the surface of such warnings. Had I not done my own research and found the fulfillment of prophecies concerning such, I would have believed any writer who posited that aliens kidnapped some people and took over their minds.

According to published and accepted theories, guns, germs and steel decided on their own accord to target Africans; since then, the killing and milking of their resources have become habitual. As a fellow writer, even though I had a hard time swallowing that, I respect my colleagues' theses. However, none of those works answered my basic question: What could possess specific nations and their seed to pursue Africans, their lands, peoples, and their resources relentlessly for 400-year periods?

Sequential coding of letters of male heirs of Abraham revealed interesting prophetic pronouncements. Those from a specific point A to a reference point G matched known and documented history. Those from specific reference points M to point Z matched recorded history. I knew fame early. I do not have to barter my soul or my integrity to achieve anything. Thank heaven my reputation is more important than having a marketable perception. By creating a trans-continental radio audience, by adding my name to issues people are afraid to touch, all I want to do is to remind people that crime--gift wrapped or laid bare is the same. Stop believing that some are more bearable than others. Corporations reward rebel executives with huge bonuses while the staff that inhabit the "pleb" bleachers get laid off. If, the intent is to monopolize the diamond industry, to control the prices, and if that means destroying the reputation of some nations in the process, how would anyone know? Isn't it better to believe the packaged and well merchandised theory that the monies from either the purchase or sale of certified diamonds will never shed blood or finance conflict? After all, we believed that guns--by themselves, germs--by themselves, and steel--by themselves might have killed millions.

I would have been so happy if the people who produce those movies pressing to convince us that hungry farmers are evil people trying to finance revolutions, if they would include just a little footage showing us the conditions that diamond miners work under and also to disclose what the workers receive for a day's pay in local currency. When that is finished, convert the local currency to U.S or Euro. Sad to say, many miners would be happy to receive as much as U.S$1.00 per day. I think just about everyone has experienced the pain of a sprained ankle at sometime in their lives, most of us more than once. Most people that are active or athletic will experience the pain of a sprained ankle at some point. When I was a medic with a rifle company in the Army National Guard it was a common injury. When I played football or basketball or even baseball in high school I suffered a few sprain ankles also.

So what exactly is a sprained ankle? According to the Micromedex files at the hospital where I work a sprained ankle is when the ligaments in the ankle are stretched or torn. I had thought that torn ligaments was a separate and more severe injury than a sprain. As a medic with the Army National Guard and as a corpsman in the Navy, as well as a Personal trainer I would still feel that a torn ligament was different and more severe than a sprain. That is however what the Micromedex says.

I do agree though that the cause of the sprained ankle or torn ligaments can and often is the exact same. That is they are both usually caused when there is a sudden injury to your ankle. On the baseball diamond it could come sliding into base or having your foot turn as you step on base. Just walking down the street you could slip in a hole and twist the ankle. A football player could have his legs taken out from under him by a tackler and twist the ankle or the knee. Any type of trauma that twists or causes the ankle to bend in an unusual way can cause a sprain.

If you do have an ankle injury you may need X-Rays do make sure you do not have broken bones. If there are no broken bones the ankle should heal in about 4-6 weeks. Depending on the severity of the sprain you may have weakness for 6 to 18 months, though I have had sprains many times and with proper treatment and therapy even 6 months sounds like a long period unless the ligaments are indeed torn.

You will likely experience considerable pain with an ankle sprain, but most caregivers will suggest using Tylenol or another NSAID to relieve the pain. The Acronym RICE is usually how a sprain is treated.

Rice stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

Rest the affected ankle for at least 24 hours if possible
Ice down the area to help reduce Swelling it is common practice to ice down the area for 15 to 20 minutes each hour for the first 48 hours. Use a bag of ice and place a towel between the ice and the skin.

After 48 hours you may want to use heat such as warm wet towels in place of the ice.

Depending on the severity of the sprain the caregiver may give you an elastic bandage or a splint or both to place on the ankle. Follow the direction given as this may aid in a quicker recovery.

You should also elevate the affected ankle above your heart whenever possible. This will help reduce the swelling

By doing these things and following the RICE protocol you will aid in the healing of your sprain and therefore heal more quickly.

Some people believe strongly in the use of supplements and herbs so below is a short list of a few supplements that have been used in the treatment of ankle sprains.

Herbs such as Boswellia (Boswellia serrata) have been used for many years, but it has not had any double blind studies done on it for effectiveness in ankle sprains.

Capsaicin Cream (Capsicum frutescens) can be applied to the ankle injury to help deaden the pain. This is actually made from Cayenne Pepper and is said to be irritating for the first few applications then the irritation stops. If you use this be sure to wash your hands thoroughly to keep any of the substance out of your eyes.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is another herb that has been used for many years but has never had any scientific studies done for effectiveness.

Willow (Salix alba) an herb that has been used for many years for ankle sprains but has not been studied in a controlled environment for effectiveness.

Supplements such as DMSO, D-Phenylalanine, Glucosamine sulfate, Niacinamide, Vitamin A and Vitamin C have also been used in the treatment of ankle sprains.

Acupuncture and acupressure as well as massage and physical therapy have all been used in the treatment of ankle sprains.

The LG KC550 is a wonderful phone having an excellent camera.

Design:

One thing is for sure, when LG manufactures a phone they make sure that the phone is as stylish as possible and the KC550 is no exception, the phone is wonderful to look at. It consists of a huge 2.4 inch screen having a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Such a large screen is necessary for such a phone. It adds to the viewing pleasure. Below the phone there are normal navigation and call keys instead of touch navigation keys. It is good that LG Cell Phones decided to add normal navigation keys, as the touch navigation keys that were used in LG Chocolate were problematic and would perform actions by themselves such as making calls and deleting contacts when in the pocket.

On the left side of the phone there exists a port for the USB cable and the head phones, while on the right side there is a dedicated camera key, the volume rocker keys and the memory card slot which supports MicroSD cards up to 4 GB.

Camera:

The KC550 comes with a 5 mega pixel camera and is the main attraction of the phone. The camera comes with a Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens and has advanced features such as auto focus, image stabilizer and a lot more. The pictures taken with the camera are of excellent quality. The KC550 records video at a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels and at a frame rate of 30 frames per second, which is really impressive for a phone and the recorded videos are worth watching.

LG Cell Phones have added an excellent feature in this phone, the accelerometer. The accelerometer can be used to flip the screen orientation from portrait to landscape modes as you rotate the handset, and it can also be used for playing games. If your only interest is in handing out cards, the relationships can only be continued and strengthened if they choose to follow-up with you.

5. Dedicate Yourself to Timely and Consistent Follow-up

Once you have their cards, determine who the key prospects are for you. Lets face it, your time is limited. Only follow-up with those you can stay in touch with on a regular and consistent basis. As soon as possible after the event, make initial contact with them. The opportunity to build a relationship will grow cold quickly and you can easily lose the momentum gained at the networking event.

Networking can be a demanding and time-consuming process. But if you follow a few simple guidelines, it can also produce a rewarding and prospect-building outcome.

As Barry Bonds comes ever closer to breaking the National Pastimes hallowed home run record, currently held by Hank Aaron at 755, the controversy regarding illicit performance enhancing drug use, which may forever taint Bonds entire career, does accomplish taking the focus off of Major League Baseball (MLB) and its own shortcomings.

The scrutiny which has been paid, in only just the past two years, over drug use among MLB players, while having been a black eye for MLB, is also convenient as Commissioner Bud Selig need not address myriad other issues which also play their part in preserving the integrity of the game.

For example, MLB has done little exploration into the variations in equipment over just the past 10 years or so and more specifically the wooden bat itself. A number of questions come to mind. Is it just coincidence that Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs in 2001 after he switched his bats wood from that of ash to a hand-lathed maple? Is the accelerated breakage of bats over the past 5 plus years due to an acutely thinning bat handle with a larger barrel and lighter weight or is it the non-discriminate MLB approval process of the making and even storage of bats that makes them more vulnerable?

Is it a coincidence that prior to 2003, MLB welcomed smaller bat makers as suppliers to MLB players but suddenly instituted an exorbitant certification fee with nearly impossible to acquire insurance liability policies for smaller operations, costing thousands upon thousands of dollars? And is it not worth taking a look at why there is such a difference in the quality of bats Hillerich & Bradsby Co., the manufacturer of Louisville Sluggers, provides only specific big leaguers, but does not do so for others? In fact, the company proudly admits it.

Preserving the sanctity of the game is multi-faceted. Although technology and safety standards over time have essentially been a beneficial reward for players, it is hard to measure the consistency of the game of MLB if issues such as bat manufacture and its own baseball operations are done on a selective and arbitrary basis. And when it ultimately impacts the way the game is played and its future records, it should be routinely examined.

Hillerich & Bradsby, although deemed the official bat of MLB, is not the exclusive supplier of bats for its players. However, it is still the number one provider to MLB with about a 60% share of its bats supply and curries favor and power, due to its longevity and stature in the history of the game, not to mention the power which is bestowed upon it by MLB, which few other manufacturers enjoy.

In 2002, there were 48 MLB bat manufacturers, and surprisingly little thought was put into the verification process in order to become a bat maker supplier of MLB bats other than for the supplier to provide a sample bat made out of a single piece of wood. But in 2003, MLB went to the other extreme. In a form letter sent to all bat makers in December 2002, MLB stated it would start requiring that they carry $10 million worth of liability insurance, and indemnify MLB, its shareholders, directors, officers, employees and agents attached to various product liability issues.

In addition, the certification fee was increased to $10,000.00 per year, necessary to provide bat makers with the privilege of selling their bats to MLB players. Since that time, although the liability coverage has been reduced to $5 million per year, it still remains prohibitively expensive for boutique manufacturers, or most other domestic suppliers other than Hillerich and Bradsby, to do business with MLB.

MLB also requires that the insurance carrier providing coverage to bat makers must have a best rating of A-8 or better. Carolina Clubs, a MLB certified bat maker from Florida, was nearly denied doing business with MLB, as to find a guaranteed insurance carrier of any kind in the hurricane-ridden state of Florida in the post-Katrina era is nearly impossible. However, virtually overnight in 2003, bat suppliers were whittled down to a mere 14 for that season. In 2007, there are supposedly 20-25 suppliers, although MLB makes it difficult to even corroborate such information.

According to the head of MLB Baseball Operations at the time in 2003, Sandy Alderson, The administrative fee was originally intended to help us defray the costs of inspecting bats, approving bats and for all administrative work and testing. MLB needed $140,000.00 to approve the bats of 14 companies?

In 1862, MLB first restricted the diameter of the barrel, requiring it not exceed 2.5 inches. It was increased in 1895 to 2.75 inches in diameter, as it remains today. 1868 saw the limit put on a length of 42 inches, as it also remains today. No weight requirements, either minimum or maximum have ever been required. With those parameters, combined with improvements in technology and players bat speeds, it could be argued that it is a far different game than even Babe Ruth played. For example, the Babe used a 42-ounce bat as opposed to the average weight of 32 ounces used by todays MLB players.

Ash bats were exclusively used for decades, after hickory was phased out, until 1997 when Sam Holman of Ottawa, Canada and his Sam Bat caught the attention of then Blue Jays star player, Joe Carter. He then supposedly talked up Holmans bats which eventually in 1999 found their way into the hands of Barry Bonds. Bonds went on a tear hitting 374 of his total home runs with the sugar maple bats from Sam Holman and broke Mark McGuires 1998 home run season record of 70 by besting him with his 73 in 2001.

Holmans bats have been used by over 500 MLB players and he is expected to furnish Bonds with the bat used for his number 756. Given the proximity of Holman to some of the best maple tree forests in North America in Ottawa, Holmans business has thrived over the past ten years, although he is selling his business in order to retire. Ash trees also hail from a northern climate, and are harvested primarily from the New York-Pennsylvania area.

The arguments over the consistency and flight of the ball with either wood are never-ending, but there are distinct differences between the two woods. Ash supposedly has more flex, but is not as heavy a wood as maple, producing a bit less flight of the ball upon impact. Additionally, ash bats have less longevity than maple bats and break more frequently and are more apt to shatter, flake and splinter upon breaking.

Sugar or rock maple, considered the finest maple for bats, are more expensive, and range in price from $70.00 -$130.00 while ash bats range between $50.00 and $75.00, yet need to be replaced more frequently than maple. Most players using maple claim that the ball travels farther off of the barrels sweet spot as opposed to ash. But because the wood itself is a heavier grade, the barrels are made slightly narrower than the ash bats in order to accommodate a lighter weight comparable to ash. And when maple bats do eventually break, they do so in large pieces as opposed to splinters.

The lack of restrictions on weight or the lack of prescribed storage care of bats by MLB, could have a profound impact on whether or not a bat breaks or explodes upon impact. Such endangers its players and spectators. Players go through an average of 60-70 bats a season. But the moisture content of the wood upon manufacture as well as in storage, whether the bat is hand-lathed or completely machine made, as well as the bats weight and handle diameter, could all alter the bats ultimate performance and longevity. Seattle Mariner, Ichiro Suzuki, for example, has his own humidor for his entire bat supply.

And why should a bat maker, such as Sam Holman, who produces several thousand bats each season to MLB as opposed to Hillerich and Bradsby's 750,000, foot a bill of $65,000.00 per year for liability insurance? The supposed interest in increasing liability insurance fees by MLB for bat makers is an easy way for MLB not to address the incessant breakage of its bats. Perhaps it is the quality of MLB bat inspectors, or a lack of a minimum quality standard of wood or the non-requirement of prescribed weight ratio of bat barrels to handles. But instead of MLB looking for a better standardization process for its bats, it would rather thrust the responsibility onto the bat makers, and thereby still leaving players and spectators at risk.

Also of note, according to Hillerich and Bradsbys Chuck Schupp, head of its professional division, We have a priority list of players. A lot of it is based on a personal relationship. If someone is loyal to us, well take care of them. And although players are not required to sign exclusivity contracts with bat makers, as individual teams assume all costs for players bats, Schupp says there is a Louisville Slugger A list. It includes Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, Carlos Delgado and Ken Griffey, Jr., among select others.

If star players are treated preferably by Schupp for their Louisville Slugger bats, does that mean that average or up and coming players are at a distinct disadvantage while not getting the best product from the same manufacturer? Should not MLB perhaps look into that?

And finally, unless MLB and its Commissioner is willing to look at all matters of inequity in its sport, whether it be an issue between players, between equipment manufacturers and its players, between baseball operations and its suppliers or a lack of standardization when it comes to equipment, MLB should not be permitted to point the finger exclusively at the use of performance enhancing drugs as the sole threat to the sanctity of the game. For that is far from the only difference-maker in varying performance results in the game of MLB today.

And if MLB wants to be taken seriously in preserving the integrity of the game, it must do a far better job of it rather than its present lethargic effort. For certainly, they are not fooling the fans and the fans and the players deserve better.

South America is home to some of the world's largest and lushest rainforests. Fully one fifth of the different species of flora and fauna on the planet can be found in these forests, and quite a number of them are indigenous to this region alone. Despite the sheer size of the rain forests, they are rapidly being diminished by deforestation in South America.

The reasons for the deforestation in South America generally run the usual gauntlet that has plagued other countries; first and foremost on the list are man's need for more arable farm land, and the need for lumber. These two needs are difficult to avoid, as the world's increasing population makes subsequent changes in the demand for food as well as lumber for construction.

The other two reasons for south american deforestation are the conversion of forest area into urbanized areas, and the location of valuable iron ore and petroleum deposits deep in the rain forests. These other two reasons have been the target of some public scrutiny, as they usually lead to the destruction of sections of rainforest without using the lumber for any useful purpose.

More often than not, the trees are either thrown away and left to rot, or the forest sections to be cleared are actually razed by fire. In either event, the forest is treated more as an obstruction to progress and civilization instead of the valuable commodity that it is. However, the four reasons given above are common factors of deforestation the world over. But in South America, there are other, stranger reasons for deforestation that seem to be specific to this continent alone.

In Brazil, the leading reasons for deforestation are cattle ranching and soybean farming. Brazil itself is home to large sections of the amazon rainforest, which itself actually stretches althroughout most of south america. Aside from the amazon, brazil holds one third of the world's number of rain forests. Despite this large percentage, almost a quarter of the forests in Brazil have already been lost. The practice of cattle ranching and the destruction of forest for grazing land has long been a heavy contributor to deforestation in south america, and these numbers have increased steadily as European countries have turned to Brazil for 75% of their meat imports.

Soybean farming is a fairly recent developement in Brazil, yet has already climbed up the ranks to be the second highest cause of deforestation in South America. The creation of new breeds of soy bean in Brazil has already allowed it to compete neck in neck with the United States as the world's leading soy bean exporter, and the subsequent increase in demands for comercially arable land has led to the destruction of vast tracts of forest region.

Another reason for deforestation in south america that is different from the usual is the presence of gold and diamond mines in Venezuela. Venezuela's rain forests originally were divided by the Orinoco river that runs through the country, with 20% of the forests growing north of the river and the remaining 80% growing south. The usual reasons of logging and the need for farming and urban land have already more or less decimated the upper 20% since most of the inhabitants of Venezuela live north of the Orinoco. However, the discovery of rich gold and diamond deposits in the rainforests south of the river have sparked numerous mines, which are currently the leading reason for deforestation in Venezuela.

Lastly, Colombia is another part of South America where deforestation is due to more than just the "usual" reasons. The infamy of the country's drug lords is well justified, and numerous Colombian rain forests have been razed to make farm land for growing cocaine, marijuana, opium, and other recreational pharmaceuticals. Since these "farms" are usually hidden deep in the rain forests, when anti narcotics forces attack them to shut them down, the ensuing battles usually wind up devastating large tracts of the surrounding rain forests as well.

As you can see, the problem of deforestation in South America is not quite as simple as it is in other countries. With various factors thrown in aside from the common ones that affect other regions, any efforts made at saving the South American rain forests require dedication and support far above the norm.

While running and gunning my way through life I often stopped to ponder the reality of an ultimate authority. Knowing that one day I would be required to reckon with such deity, these thoughts then took me on a journey of spiritual enlightenment to the various religions of the world.

Beings that "The Book" has diagrams representing future events or plans that I could realize, I engaged them, only to come to terms with the reality that what was written before time can not be changed in time, but rather time was allowed to change me. Therefore, I have concluded that the prophecies written in "The Book" are the inevitable consequence that validates my previous self-willed lifestyle.

In my many years of traveling through this journey of process called "Life" I have found it best that I do not allow myself to have emotional loyalties to any political or religious parties in order to prevent myself from becoming bias in my thoughts.

I learned many years ago that truth is illusive. Whereas, what is truth for me may not hold true for another, as we all have experienced various moments that have defined our beliefs. Therefore, I challenge everything from that comes from any media, including the Bible.

After many years of reckoning with these realities, I then went on to launch an on-line ministry where I am often engaged in some rather unique conversations with others. I now wish to share one of the many conversations I have been allowed over the last year or so.

On September 23, 2007, I received a friend request via MySpace.com from an unknown person or person(s) of an organization. As always when I receive a request, I investigate the requestor's MySpace website to discover clues to their character.

Here I discovered all the hallmarks of a typical 30 year old single male, the girly pics, the desires for admiration and romance, with other interests that lead me to believe that he had a strong desire for truth, rather than just accepting whatever the various medias claim. However, his vision of truth, at first, appeared to be one contaminated with anger and resentment towards the present governmental administration.

I then responded to the request by agreeing with much of that regarding his political views and the ideas they reflect, but there were things I felt the young man was not aware of.

I explained my thoughts regarding our present governmental circumstance was inevitable and that those in power are merely pawns in a game of chest, just as were many world leaders who preceded them, and that the Hebrew Scriptures are full of such leaders.

I explained that I did not wish to see anyone take the blatant disregard regarding our civil rights lying down like a patsy or a fool, but that there is a process going on here that is purging evil out of the heart of all men. I reminded the requester that the battle is not between flesh and blood, but rather between spiritual principalities that are beyond our direct control or our reasoning.

I explained that I would accept his offer primarily because I love the American flag that the group uses as its icon. I am old school, therefore, I still get tears when I am offered to place my hand on my heart and pledge my alliance to those who died to protect my religious freedom.

I then went on to explain my grave concerns for those who are being allowed to profit from the sex trade, drug manufactures that often appear more concerned with profit than character. The materialistic mindset created by the media and the tolerance that is being allowed to encourage sexual deviancy.

It appears that people are so fearful that they will be seen as intolerant they are allowing the media to re-engineer to the point of teaching, enabling, almost giving permission to our children to do whatever, without fear of consequence. Much of what appears to be learned by engaging in pornography, violent video games and other self-destructive media.

Then when the child acts out on this, now a preset alternative, almost pre-programmed action, society then arrests and punishes the child, rather than allowing for treatment to suppress the learned behavior. Therefore, I ask who is at fault here, a congress that gives its permission to a media that teaches the behavior, or the child who merely acts on an alternative or learned behavior.

I believe this enabling tolerance has now reached its maxims and if these addictive modalities are allowed to survive much longer, they will continue to cause irreparable damage to both, traditional as well as secular families.

They claim that 85% of the American population claim Christianity as their choice of religion, and with a Christian church on every corner it would seem so. However, when surveys are taken 85% of those surveyed do not know Saul from Paul, and most appeared to have various claims regarding their understanding of Christ.

I have a rather unique view of The Christ because I came to the realization that the brick and mortar church is being manipulated. Therefore, religion is used to control mankind, rather than to allow his freedom from the tyranny that is the god of this world.

Where some claimed you are blessed by God only if you see extravagant success in the market place, others claim money is a curse. Some claim abortion and homosexuality are unforgivable sins, whereas, others claimed the Law given to Moses was abolished on the cross.

It appears that most people refuse to study the words in The Book to discover for themselves, thus allowing them to create their own set of rules that allow them to justify whatever they choose to do with their lives. This is the true sin of Lucifer, his free-will gone rouge. Yet, his "church" wishes to blame the true children of the most high God for Lucifer's crimes against humanity.

It appears that because most people do not understand this, many now wish to remove the true Christ from congress, however, when they finish sandblasting the Old Testament Scriptures off of the walls, they will realize Who was holding up the roof.

It is for these very reasons why I do believe, if not arrested, God has called on various modalities to wreck havoc on America's inner structure and government, thus creating its economic collapse. The medias blatant disregard and exploitation of the simple minded will not be tolerated, because God will not be mocked.

I had suspected that the powers to be may have created a need to wag war on Iraq in order to gain control of the oil reserves, and the only way to sell a need for war to the American people was to create a scenario to unite them under the guise of a common enemy. However, they, the rogue government have no fear of any such group, but rather fear the day the masses are awakened and begin to realize they are the true children of Yahweh.

However, I was not fully aware that the powers to be had created 9-11 until I saw an image on the video of the primary supports on the Twin Towers had been cut at 45% angles, with what appeared to me as having been done with gas cutting torches. I wish I could have seen this for myself or at least interviewed the witnesses of this and those regarding pre-explosions just seconds before the air craft made its fiery crash. However, with that many witnesses, it does tend to remove the doubt factor.

I do believe, as many I'm sure, that if the war in Iraq was created, it was not created to liberate a nation or remove a Godless tyrant, but rather, to control the oil reserves. As any serious thinking person would have to come to the conclusion that oil is the heart beat of all nations and without it, a nation can not survive. However, there may be a more serious spiritual component to all this.

As far as Mr. Dick Chaney's involvement in Halliburton, is appalling, the same as if Kofi Annan's sons' alleged involvement in the "Oil for Food" program. If proof can be provided, all involved in these atrocities should have seen incarceration. However, as I claimed above, there is a power at work here that is above reproach. In that, evil is claimed in the Hebrew Scriptures to work towards the ultimate goal of an ultimate Authority and to a reality unrealized at this present time.

This then brings up the next topic in regards to religion. Rather than involve myself in the judgment of other men's unsavory deeds, as I sure have invoked plenty of my own, I now wish to address my thoughts on man's use of religion to control the hearts and minds of the simple minded. This, to me is a much more heinous crime than any addressed thus far.

God says He spoke the universe into existence, and to this I have no reason to mistrust His claim. I also have no reason to disbelieve Him when He claims to be holding each molecule together with His breath. It all makes no real difference to me how He did what He did, I just know that He did what He did, and in the way He needed to do whatever He did.

As far as other persons claiming to have been born to a virgin birth, every tribe of men have their stories and folklore of a great flood and prophecy claims that are all very similar in their nature. Most just use different people, places and things in their representations, but all depicting same outcomes.

I have been tracing down a bearded man called by many names who had apparently visited the Americas. They say he came from the sea, and returned to the sea, as if he just walked there and back.

Therefore, of all those claiming to be born to a virgin, only one claimed to be the way, the truth and the life. Anyone can claim divinity, however, only one did and in my understanding. Whether He is the Son of God, or the sun of man, He is the only one who makes logical since, even after my long process of research.

But, again it is so much more. When a man suffers grave consequence for his actions, or those of another, he often contemplates the whole of his life and his role in the bigger picture. Here he is often granted a quite heart that begins to recognize a voice directing him to a certain goal or destination.

Although many have tried, none to my satisfaction, have ever totally explained this gut feeling that comes during these dark times to relieve the darkness of its duty to discount the validity of the light reflecting its truth.

I find value in understand life and its many implications in Holy books, however, this understand did not come from a book or other modality, but rather, from a storm of emotional carnage.

There is much for us to learn, as we have but just scratched the surface here. Therefore, we should not take it personal when denial has a foothold causing our message to go unheard. We must understand this free-willed spirit hampers the hearts and minds of those who love the ways of the world. In that; it is wise to live on the earth, rather than in it. For those who are in love with the ways of the world, have little, if any respect for their Creator.

Therefore, we all must understand that we can not argue with an infant for messing in his pants. As it is all that he understands, but just until the time when he is allowed to recognize the smell of his own stench, but not until his time for reckoning has arrived. Therefore, we are our brother's keeper, but not his judge.

I then received the requestor's reply claiming that his beliefs did not come from lack of believing in deity, but rather mistrust for "The Book" in that, claiming it was written by man. I understood his concern, knowing the "The Church" did not place the gospel of Thomas and many other popular Hebrew Old Testament Scriptures in the canon. I believe because these speak of redemption outside the early churches control, it feared many of these gospels.

The requestor then expressed a touch of doubt, but explained his reasoning further. He apparently grew up in his father's church, his father being the pastor, the requestor and his step mother had both taught Bible studies and the family had traveled to various parts of the world doing missionary work.

He had attended a Christian collage and managed a Halfway House for drug addicts, so I knew that he had a strong foundation of education. But "what" I asked myself, "What would cause him to believe the way he now believes?"

In 12 step groups I often heard many reasons why people had left the brick and mortar church. Some sure seemed legitimate to me, whereas, others I had to question. Some people just appeared to have cause to want out in order to see the world for themselves without feeling hampered. However, surveys done tell us that 85% of these return to their basic foundation.

Upon further correspondence I found my answer. Apparently the requestor had asked God why other men had been privileged to see various visions, but not he. That night he claimed to have seen a vision that changed his life.

He said he saw God as a huge ball of what looked like lava ever rotating with streams of lava coming into the bodies of man, animal, plant, all of it. Then he saw fields of knowledge of which consisted love and kindness and light. He claimed to have seen evolved humans, the Creation of man and Mayan art before he knew anything about Mayans, their culture or their art. In the morning he began drawing countless pictures that were directly linked to Mayan art.

When he saw the field of knowledge, he claimed he began looking for The Book that he had trusted all of his life, and said not one trace of it was found. He said it was all rather unsettling for him, and rightly so, as his entire life began to feel like a lie.

Well needless to say, he had me curious, so I began questioning him further being careful not to bias his conclusion towards my projected outcome, but rather, one based on his own explanation.

He claimed when he saw this light, he knew it was God, however, much to his dismay, he felt God doesn't say, think, has no concept or rational, therefore, does not figure or judge, but rather, is the consequence of a math mathematical equation. Not aware of his surrounding or ours. He is just performing a duty to continue the equation.

This just made no sense to me, a Creator that has no connection to His creation? I again enquired further, knowing there are many factors to consider, as truth appears to be rather illusive and subjective governed by one's life experiences and what he chooses to do with the information.

Many years ago I received an excerpt from a book titled; "The Natural Depth in Man" By Wilson Van Dusen. In this book, Professor Van Dusen describes his work with those suffering schizophrenia.

He wrote about two distinct forms of spiritual entities. One he titled "The lower order spirit" that speaks with many words about having great powers. However, after being engaged in indirect conversation, was often made foolish by Van Dusen's inquiries.

The other entity Van Dusen titled "The higher order spirit." This spirit was symbolic, rather than using words. In order to see the jesters presented, Van Dusen required the client to explain what the client was viewing, rather than hearing as he had done with the other form.

However, another observation Van Dusen claimed was that the lower order was often allowed to mimic the higher order to resemble its symbolisms. Even though the responder claimed no connection, and because I understand prayer to be a 24/7 conscious contact asking for God's will to be done, believing it to be a form of paradigm, or communal thought, I then asked the responder what he felt while he was with this entity. He claimed he did feel a common connection other than a source of energy to do or see or to be.

His went on to explain a feeling of well being unlike anything he had ever felt before. "It was a feeling of immense love, joy and comfort, as if I was as one with the source of the light."

I then explained why I had taken such a serious interest in his encounter, because I, too, had, had an encounter. Many years ago, I had an almost indescribable, almost inhuman emotional connection with someone or something that left me feeling utopian.

A calming peace had fallen on me that was beyond my comprehension. It was like harmony and perfection was a catalyst that held peace and joy together. Then it just melted away before I could fully understand it. It seemed like an emotional view of heaven, a spiritual intimacy with harmony! I then felt whole with God!

It left me with a sense of wonder and aw. It was rather overwhelming and powerful. It came on so fast that it could not be measured by time. I felt I was given a brief window of total contentment.

During further conversation with the responder, who is now a friend, he shared more with me. This may be tough for many of you to believe, even if you believe us so far our claims here. He elaborated further on the evolved humans he had previously mentioned.

He claimed they looked an awful lot like an Alien is described in many photos we have seen. Except made of energy with an almost teardrop head and body's skinny as can be. Something strange though, he claimed when he tried to look them in the face, they would not look at him, but rather, continued
doing what they were doing as if he was not even there.

They just seemed to refuse to make eye contact no matter how hard he tried. He claimed he got the feeling that they were protecting him, as if eye contact with them would have harmed him in some way.

My new friend appeared to have had a vision in the night, whereas, I felt I had, had a day time dream. This lead me to believe that there is only one universe, one family and one Creator of all, who serves all religions and has relationship with all men.

I understand the Creator, whom I choose to call "God" to be the energy source that maintains all, whom through the presents of His identity in Yahshua has personality and maintains personal relationships with the Creator whom I choose to call my friend.

There appears to be an opposing life force I choose to call Lucifer or deceiver, whom also maintains personal relationships that I wish I didn't have. However, they are both known by many names in many different lands and from many times and ages.

The ultimate goal for me then became to become as one, as luminous, to share in this transfiguration with the One whom I choose to call my friend.

Houston has long understood the precepts purported in this study. I found an interesting article published June 14, 1916 (yes, 1916!) by the New York Times, Houston Tax Plan Brings Prosperity. The article quoted J. J. Pastoriza, Tax and Finance Commissioner of Houston:

"Never tax anything which is produced by the industry, enterprise, or ingenuity of man, because to do so will tend to decrease the sum and increase the cost of such products. The fewer restrictions, both as to taxes and regulation, which a city places upon business or products, the faster, greater, and wealthier will that city grow. The power to tax is the power to destroy as well as the power to build up. Houston decided to use this power to construct and build a great city, rather than to retard or destroy one."

Over the past decade, the 10 states with the highest taxes and spending, and the most intrusive regulations, had half the population and job growth, and one-third slower growth in incomes, than the 10 most economically free states.

In 2006 alone 1,500 people EVERY DAY moved to the states with the highest economic competitiveness from the states with the lowest competitiveness.

Of all the policy variables examined, two stand out as perhaps the most important in attracting jobs and capital. The first is the income tax rate:

States with the highest income tax rates -- California and New York, for example -- are significantly outperformed by the nine states with no income tax, such as Texas and Florida.

The other factor for attracting jobs and capital is right-to-work laws: States that permit workers to be compelled to join unions have much lower rates of employment growth than states that don't.

Many companies say they will not even consider locating a factory in a state that does not have a right-to-work law.

The study also finds that states with antigrowth tax and spending policies don't just lose people. Noncompetitive states like New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois and New Jersey are also plagued by falling housing values, a shrinking tax base, business outmigration, capital flight and high unemployment rates, and less money for schools, roads and aging infrastructure.

In part 1, I looked at comfort, lifestyle, metal choice, personality, and budget considerations when choosing a man's ring. Here, I'll detail five additional issues to consider:

Do you want his ring to match yours?

It's romantic to wear matching wedding rings, but if you and he have different tastes, different size hands, and completely different personalities, matching rings can represent a problem. Also, if you want your wedding ring to match -- and possibly connect to -- your engagement ring, that will make it more complicated to have his ring match yours. On the other hand, you can choose rings with similar features -- perhaps the same pattern or combination of metals.

Does he have strong feelings about design?

Men's wedding rings are usually simpler than women's, but that doesn't mean you don't have a wide variety of designs and styles to choose among. You can have his ring personalized in many ways: with a special symbol, engraving, texture, a Celtic knot, or a geometric shape. Men's rings can be any width you like; can be made of a combination of metals; and can be simple or ornate.

Will it be right for his body size and shape?

If he is a big guy, his hands are large, or he has long fingers, he can handle a wider ring that someone smaller. Choose an average-width or slightly wider band. If his hands are small or his fingers are slender, stick with a narrower band. In terms of width, men's wedding rings are usually wider than their brides' bands. The most popular men's widths are 6 and 7 mm. If you are considering one wider than 7mm, bear in mind that very wide bands may not be as comfortable and usually fit tighter. So, when you have his finger sized for a wider ring, experts generally recommend going up by 1/4 - 1/2 size.

Does he want gemstones or not?

For some men, this is a big decision. Some men feel it is a little "too much," but, like all other choices involving a ring, this is a matter of personal preference. If he likes to live a little outside the box, it is perfectly acceptable for a men's wedding ring to include gemstones. Again, it is a question of style, taste, personality, and the kind of work and play he does. If there is a chance he is going to dislodge or damage a stone, he may not want to do it. If you do opt for gemstones, the most common are diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. Most jewelers advise against pearls and opals, which are more fragile than gemstones. A ring with stones need not be overstated at all. In fact, it can be tasteful and elegant.

Can he wear it while he's working or playing?

Does he work with his hands? If so, are there specific safety or dress code requirements associated with the job that make the wearing of a wedding ring dangerous or against company policy? For example, does he work with machinery or some other kind of equipment that could become caught on a ring? If not, does he have a job that could be rough on jewelry in some way -- rubbing off the finish, denting the metal, or loosening a stone?

If the issue isn't the job, perhaps it is extra-curricular activities. Does he engage in rough and tumble sports, such as rock climbing, football, soccer, ice hockey, or surfing? Any of them can play havoc with a ring, especially if it has gemstones or can easily slip off the finger. Or, what about hobbies? Do they involve gardening, soldering, sanding, cutting, or other kinds of tools that could damage a nice piece of jewelry? These are all considerations when choosing your man's wedding band.

As a former official eBay Trading Assistant, Trading Post owner and master franchise representative for an eBay drop store franchise chain. I would like to weigh in on the subject of franchising and stand alone eBay drop stores or consignment locations.

My experience on both sides of the fence has revealed certain truths, and since I was at one time a proponent of the franchise model, I believe my views could be helpful to anyone considering the purchase of a new franchise eBay drop store. These views are my own opinion and do not reflect upon eBay any eBay franchise drop store chain in particular or upon eBay consignment as an addition to any other type of business. I am simply expressing my views regarding the stand alone drop store franchise model and why it has failed.

The Promise:

eBay drop stores came upon the scene with a great fanfare and promise. Initially it was considered a unique and interesting proposition by both business pundits (Entrepreneur Magazine) and investors alike. The promise of the initial drop store franchise operations seemed limitless and they expanded like weeds across the land. Soon it would be difficult to pick up a newspaper or read a business magazine without seeing some reference, either advertisement or article, about the eBay drop store franchise revolution. It was an exciting time...

These franchises promised individuals an easy way to be in business for themselves - a way to "have a store without investing in inventory" by offering a simple effective solution to everyone in America's battle with clutter. People heard the story and they believed; they read about eBay's fabulous growth and the amount of merchandise sold every moment on eBay and they felt it was a sure thing. If any franchise could work for them, this type would because it was easy and it was new and customers would clamor over themselves to get in the door. And really it was a "cheap" franchise to buy....

The Deal:

The deal was simple.

Anyone could own a store if they agreed to the franchise terms. Most of these terms included a simple up-front franchise fee of about $25,000, an added expense for signage and fixtures of anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000, plus a continuing monthly national advertising fee and a royalty fee on all sales of about 4% (of Gross Sales), some with a cap at $1,250.00 per month but most with no cap on the royalty fee.

Once "accepted" into the franchise, the new store owner would be "helped" in finding a suitable lease for a prime storefront (its all about location). These prime retail locations usually were recommended to have a footprint in excess of 2500 square feet. (The storefront itself did not require more than 300 square feet, but storage would be large consideration). Usually the overhead numbers involved with operating a 2500 square foot space in prime retail locations were not stressed to the new store owner, but it would be mentioned to cover the basic requirements of disclosure.

Every franchise must comply with the U.S. government rules regulating franchises and they do so with a document called the UFOC. The UFOC is a very verbose & complicated document which provides both parties in a franchise transaction certain definitions, disclaimers and disclosures. The document can reach 400 pages in length or more and is simply not easy for a layman to understand or evaluate. The U.S. government requires this UFOC document, but they do not provide a course in how to read it. I will say that it is intended to provide many worthwhile protections for prospective franchise buyers, but since most of those same people do not read the document, these protections are rarely understood.

The Process:

A new store owner is first given a training course, usually lasting approximately 7 days. This course is given by the franchise at a franchise designated location (travel expenses are not included in the up-front franchise fee). The course is designed to teach the standard methods and practices of the franchise methodology of drop store operations. The class will also include many details about eBay rules, eBay practices and eBay listing procedures. Very little time is usually devoted to the calculation of eBay fees. Intake, Description, Software Operation, Photography, Storage & Inventory, Shipping, Customer Service (both store front and online) and numerous other topics are covered in this 7 day course. It really is a lot to absorb, especially if the new store owner has never sold an item on eBay before.

The Program:

The newly trained store owner is then released to complete his store construction phase according to franchise regulations. Counter colors, sign placement, numbers of computers, placement of interior walls and paint colors all are defined in the materials given to the new store owner. He has bought into a "proven" system and he must follow the franchise specs.

Once the new drop shop franchise owner's store is complete, he is ready for business. Some franchises will use a portion of the "National Advertising" budget to send out flyers and possibly buy a newspaper ad or a radio spot for the grand opening of the new eBay drop store. Initially the store owner is pleased with the small amount of initial business which results from this advertising push because he and his staff (usually 4 or more employees to start) need to get up to speed on all of the procedures of both eBay and the franchise and they need to learn each step of the process. The store owner is responsible for training his employees or he can send them to the franchise corporate headquarters for a training class at his own expense. Usually it is a trial and error method with the new store owner teaching his staff as much as he can remember from his short training class.

The Grind:

Now that everyone is all "trained" and the initial "ad buy" is over, the store owner is now looking for ways to drive business into his new store. He has more overhead than he initially had envisioned so he must get to work. Staring at a monthly nut to crack of nearly $8,000 on average, most store owners realize fairly quickly that they need items to sell on eBay. Where to get them? Some store owners simply advertise the store and wait behind the counter for customers to stream in. In certain areas of the country and in the early days of drop store operations history, this "tactic" did work. It is less likely to work each and every day however.

The average customer of an eBay drop store, franchise or not, is someone who is not tech savvy, has no internet access, is elderly or is wealthy and has little time. Initially the pool of prospective customers was much larger than it is today because more people now have internet access, more people are familiar with eBay and eBay has made it much easier for people to list a single item on their own. eBay classes are taught by certified eBay education specialists at retirement centers nationwide and these classes are sometimes free. People would rather realize 100% of net profit from a sale than 60 or even 50%.

The drop store owner is now on a mission to bring in customers.

He/She must have products to sell. If it become apparent that advertising and location simply do not provide the traffic he needs, the store owner will try different tactics. Sometimes the franchise will offer assistance in the form of "outside sales" seminars, conference calls and the like. These sales ideas are offered as a way to show that the franchise is on the side of the store owner. (To be honest, most employees of franchise operations are honest hard working people who want nothing more than to help the store owners).

In the end these outside sales ideas boil down to selling cars, RV's and boats - all of which are now precluded by eBay and some States as being illegal or unacceptable without special licenses for each. The franchise failed to mention that a store owner may need a car dealer's license and a boat broker's license or an auctioneer's license to operate a eBay drop off store and sell these types of items. Business-to-Business is another source of income promoted by franchises, but rarely do other businesses wish to split profits in the manner required to make the deal attractive for the drop store owner. This leaves only household merchandise, collectibles and toys, generally creating a garage sale type of atmosphere.

Processing becomes the key - reduce processing time, become more efficient, write shorter descriptions, shoot less photos and speed up the process for each item. This only serves to reduce the final sale price of those items.Store owners soon realize that selling any item worth less than $100 is not worth the expense of processing that item. They react by turning customers away with low value items. This is not always the wisest course of action because that customer will never return and one never knows - they could have been just trying you with a small item before bringing in a diamond ring.

Those rare occasions that high value items are presented are exciting to the store owner and stressful at the same time. The store owner knows the customer will want what he/she has been taught that diamond ring is worth. Unfortunately used diamond rings or other high value items are not always worth what some may think they are. We all like to buy low and sell high but when we buy high we really hate to sell low. eBay has a way of bringing reality to the equation. The store owner must now attempt to coerce the customer into selling a high value item with a low starting price and no reserve. Why no reserve? Because the store owner soon learns that items placed on eBay with a reserve price rarely reach the minimum bid and the number of bids on items with undisclosed reserves are are less than on items with no reserve at all. On eBay the game is to start low and hope to sell high. The store owner must get his customer to buy in to that theory.

Some eBay drop stores do survive with perseverance, skill and entrepreneurial spirit...

These stores would have survived and possibly thrived without a franchise but going in, the store owner did not know that he would have to find ways to make it work on his own. He purchased a franchise and this usually implies the investment in a proven system which will yield dividends if the system is followed. In most cases, in the eBay drop store business, if the franchise model is followed and the store owner does no more than what the franchise recommends, the store will not be profitable. The overhead, eBay fees, insurance, lease payments, employee costs and advertising costs are a tough enough nut to crack on a net of 30% of the net profit from used merchandise. Adding in a franchise fee, national advertising fee and royalty fee just makes the entire business model collapse upon itself.

Franchises sell a name and a brand in most cases.

In this case the franchises were selling someone else's name - they sold the name and brand and the cache of eBay. They did it with eBay's blessing in most cases, but they did it in a way which was not exactly providing the value of a franchise.

When one purchases a franchise like McDonalds, they are reasonably assured that people driving down the road who see the franchise sign will be familiar with that brand. When one purchases any eBay drop store franchise, no matter the name, they are not assured of the same brand recognition. They perceive a brand recognition for the eBay name, but that has little to do with xyz franchise signage. The franchises usually tried to capitalize on the eBay brand with similar color schemes or even by using the eBay logo in the franchise brand logo. This still does not make the consumer recognition for that brand any stronger than it would if a store owner who did not purchase a franchise used the same logo trick (which is not allowed by eBay) in their own non-franchise store logo.

Buying a franchise is a big step, one which should include a great deal of your own research and numbers crunching. Even if the idea of owning a franchise seems comfortable, be aware that it is not a guarantee of success. Many people who have purchase eBay drop store franchises feel as thought they were deceived into a purchase of a business model which never worked.

On the surface this is the truth, but it was not always the case. In the early days of the drop store boom the concept did work and store owners realized gross sales months as high as $200,000 or more. These numbers were widely leaked by the franchises because they helped sell franchises...and because at the time they were the truth. Leaking these numbers was a big risk. As a franchisor it is unlawful to share these numbers, but it was done on a consistent basis.

Times have changed for the eBay consignment business, the market has shifted, customers are smarter and eBay is easier to figure out. Retail lease space costs have increased and insurance premiums have doubled or more. The cost of doing business as a stand alone eBay drop store is just too high. It is no longer a viable franchise model and only in very rare cases will it work for non-franchise store owners with no other retail income.

What Will Save The Day?

Think long and hard about investing in this business model. If you currently own a franchise drop store, you need to seek other opportunities, find new ways to bring in income, reduce your overhead or increase your revenue per item. There are many options available but most store owners are swamped with the grind of maintaining the process of eBay consignment to fully explore these options.

For the owners of franchise eBay drop stores - only they can save the day. But if the franchise will not budge on the fees or on restrictions regarding secondary - or actually primary - retail solutions such as cellular (another iffy proposition) or some other form of retail, there is little hope of digging out of the trap. The current situation was not foreseen by the store owners or the franchisors, although the franchisors saw it sooner than the store owners in most cases. The situation remains, in either case...

eBay consignment can work as a tool for another business. In my view, it is not a business model which can support itself without some other form of business income. As a part of another business, eBay consignment can be a very attractive addition to the overall picture. By using eBay and consignment sales to boost revenue and provide customer service for another business entity while increasing the worldwide exposure for that business through eBay stores listings and auction listings of consigned or inventory products, eBay consignment can be utilized as a very good tool for marketing. eBay consignment, if used as a draw to get new customers in the front door, advertise an existing business in a new and interesting way, and to transition a brick and mortar operation to Internet sales can be a very nice marketing program for almost any existing business.

As a hobby or part time income producer, selling for neighbors or friends, eBay consignment can be fun and rewarding. But as a full time stand alone business model with no other income streams, your efforts and money could be invested more wisely elsewhere.

The body weight challenge exercises are something I came up back in the late summer 2007.

It's similar to the 300 Workout which was featured in Men's Health magazine. Now I didn't invent the 300 Workout, all I did was film the video, but it was a lot of fun and got a lot of feedback from people reading the magazine and I thought hey, maybe these guys are on to something, so I'll put together a body weight version and I did what is called a Bodyweight 500.

The workout is just a challenge, it's not something you're supposed to do everyday because there are other workouts that you do during the week and then you do a bodyweight challenge on the weekends or on the Friday, your final workout of the week.

So you might do a workout on Monday and Wednesday, and then in your first week of the program you'll do the Body Weight 100 and this is the program that's featured in that Belly Off Program that I mentioned at the start of the interview that guys are using to lose 20 pounds or 25 pounds of fat in 8 weeks.

They do two regular workouts and then they do they Body Weight Challenge and then the next week they do two regular fat loss workouts and then they do a harder Body Weight Challenge and so on and so on it goes until they've done either the 4 week version of it and an 8 week version of it and they work up to the 500 repetition challenge, so that's what I mean when I say Body Weight 100, in that workout there's 100 repetitions of body weight exercises.

Some are done for 10 repetitions, some are done for 15, you know, there's chin-ups, body weight squats, and some other exercises in there.

Eventually, like I said, working up to the Body Weight 500 Workout, which is generally done in about a half an hour to 40 minutes for guys that are a little bit more beginnerish and they get the workout done.

It's all body weight exercises like I said and it's a lot of fun, it's a good challenge and that's what some people need in their programs to keep the motivation up, is a challenge each week, especially those people that are competitive, a former athlete. They really like something that they can do that is going to challenge them week in and week out, so it's just not the regular routine they're going to the gym for.

They know they have a new challenge this week and they have to get the workout done in X amount of time sort of thing.

I did that initial Body Weight 500 and then I went and made an even harder workout called the Bodyweight 1000 and in that one, it's the same thing, Monday and Wednesday you do regular workouts and then on the Friday or on the weekend, you'll do a body weight challenge.

So it starts off the first week you do 250, in the second week you do 250 by 2, in the third week you do the 501, in the fourth week you do maybe 501 and the 250, in the fifth week you do the 750, and then finally at the end of week six, you do the Body Weight 1000 Challenge.

Now in this one, it's not really that much more difficult than the 500 because I added a lot of calisthenic-type exercises like jumping jacks just to get the repetition number up because you can't do 1000 push-ups in a workout. It's a whole bunch of exercises, there's probably 15 different exercises that makeup the challenges and you can do them, you know, a couple include the ball, a couple include nothing, and a couple include some type of pull-up bar.

Why pearls are precious
Before the pearl got strung to hang from your drop earrings, it traveled some ways from the bowels of a mollusk to the hands of the jeweler. Pearls are as rare as they are beautiful and no two are exactly alike, which in part makes them a favorite choice for jewels.

Of the more than 8,000 different species of mollusks, there are only 20 kinds who can produce pearls consistently. That is why natural pearls are quite rare. They also are not always the ideal shape and size to use as jewelry that is why people have turned to artificial methods of producing pearls, also called cultured pearls. This method was perfected by Kokichi Mikimoto of Japan.

Cultured pearls are essentially artificial implants. This is a more ideal method of creating pearls because it affords a certain control over the size and shape. Natural pearls are formed naturally without outside help from humans.

That is not to say that cultured pearls are less valuable than natural pearls. Their only difference is that cultured pearls are produced differently.

Pearl quality
The focal point of a drop pearl earring is of course the pearl. If youre planning to buy a pair, this is not only a beautiful addition to your collection, but is also a worthwhile investment.

The price of the pearl depends upon its quality which in turn is dependent on several factors: the color, shape, size, luster, nacre thickness and texture of the pearl.

Pearl color varies from the usual white, silver and cream to green, blue, gold and black. The color of the pearl depends upon the type of mollusk that produced it and water conditions. Sometimes, in the case of cultured pearls, the kind of nucleus used to stimulate the mollusk can also affect the pearls color.

Shape is one area where personal taste may be a high deciding factor. The most expensive kind is the perfectly round ones, because these are rare. Drop pearls are shaped like teardrops but their shape doesnt mean they are not valuable at all. A lot of good-quality pearls are drop-shaped and are preferred after the spherical ones.

Generally, the larger the pearl, the more valuable and its size is measured by its diameter. Its worth noting, however that size is not the sole determinant of value. It could be the size of a cherry but if its dull with lots of imperfections, it should not be worth much at all. Most pearls fall in the 6.5 to 7.5 mm range.

Nacre is the substance from which pearls are made of. This is the same substance that youll find inside the shell of a mollusk or oyster. Nacre affects the luster and color of the pearl and generally speaking, the thicker it is, the higher the value of the pearl.

Texture is also a consideration, since pearls, unlike gemstones, are prized based on their surface. A clean and smooth surface is an indication of a good quality pearl. It should be shiny, reflective and without spots, bumps or discolorations.

Networking to find new contacts, clients, business partners and ideas can feel like a mini-presentation. Most of the time you enter a room full of strangers and you have to find a way to introduce yourself, have an interesting conversation and build relationships in usually a very short time frame.

How can you prepare yourself to book results at business networking events? Take a look at the following 6 easy steps that will focus your intention before you attend a networking event so you can book the results you aim for.

1. Mental preparation

Before attending a networking event, ask yourself the following 3 questions:

Why am I attending?
Is it necessary that you attend or can a colleague do a better job perhaps because he or she has more connections in that field, with that group? Is the networking important for your business or has your customers profile changed over the years and you go because it has become a habit? Make a clear statement for yourself why you are attending. This is your first focus.

Who will be there?
Check the networking events participants list. Ask the organizers for an overview, they sometimes store it on their website. Go through the list and highlight a number of contacts that look promising. Depending on the time of the networking event you make a top 3, 5, 10 of contacts you wish to speak to. Now, keep in mind that less contacts is more. Better to spend 15 minutes with one guest than 5 minutes with 3 persons.

What do I want to achieve?

Knowing why you attend and who will be there, ask yourself: What results would I like to have after the event?. Perhaps you aim to find a big client who will invite you to show your new product, or you like to re-connect with business partners from the past, or you look for another career opportunity etc. The SMART model will work here: be Specific (find 3 new clients in Europe), make it Measurable (3 clients), is it Acceptable (these clients are not clashing with your existing marketing policy), is it Realistic (finding 10 new clients might be an over-optimistic target, 1 client might be too low) and check the Time frame (3 prospects in one hour is a target you can accomplish).

2. Physical preparation

Prepare by knowing what you will wear depending on the dress code and your companys policy. Have enough energy, talking to people can be tiring. Make sure you dont leave work or your home the last minute. Arrive early and relaxed. Drink water or juice and avoid alcohol, eat lightly.

3. Emotional preparation

Meeting strangers can make you nervous. Prepare by viewing the networking event as a social gathering where you will make new friends. You are there to share not to score. Focus emotionally on the other person: try to give them a good time. This will take the attention of yourself. Arrive in a good mood and full of enthusiasm.

4. Behavior

Prepare what you will do when you arrive, during the networking and when you say goodbye. What will you do when all people are talking to someone already?

How will you introduce yourself? What do you say when you like to end a conversation and move on?

Be aware that your mind might be an obstacle by judging other people or telling you that you are not succeeding. Be excited not fearful, be focused not obsessed, be curious not critical. How can you serve the other person best? Not only with your product but during the conversation as well: do you give the other person equal time to share his opinion, do you put someone at ease? Prepare to create a good time!

5. Write

Knowing what you would like to achieve at a networking event will keep you focused. To support your intention, you should write your goals and outcomes down in the present tense for example: The reception at the Holiday Inn brings me 5 valuable European contacts who are interested in my services and who I can support with my expertise. It is also a check list that you can use later to see if you managed to get the results you wanted. Look at your goal sheet regularly to prepare yourself for action.

6. Imagine

Now that you know how to prepare mentally, physically, emotionally and practically, it is time to use your imagination to get ready for the networking event. Professional athletes use their mind to mentally go over their performance. It has been common knowledge that the mind does not see the difference between the action in reality or in your imagination. See how you will enter the room, smiling at people, shaking hands of interesting new people. Feel your energy that is spreading around the room. Everyone wants to talk to you. Conversations are easy and you know when to leave and move on. See yourself back in the office with your great results. Networking is fun!

If you prepare on these 6 levels you are already taking the lead. Many participants at events do not prepare at all and are at loss what it is they want to get out of the hours they fill with chatting. You can make a difference by being focused, prepared and confident.

You have been pounding away at the iron game for years, set after set and repetition after repetition. You have literally put blood, sweat, and tears into your calf training routine. You step back to look at the view in the mirror only to notice that you are still lacking lower leg development. How can that be? You have trained calves a million and one ways, you have eaten properly, received adequate rest and still fail to see any distinct results. Do you suffer from small calf syndrome? Are you tired of putting in 100% effort and receiving only 10% results? Does any of this sound familiar?

Have you ever seen someone who doesnt workout at all or exercises very little, yet they possess beautiful and balanced calves? Just as with any other muscle, calves are genetic. The length of a muscle and the tendons insertion point will determine how great your calves will be. Those with short calf muscles and a long tendon insertion will have a much more difficult time building them to greatness, as this makes them smaller and higher.

Building calves can be frustrating and it has to be the most difficult muscle in the body to deliver desired results. Even if you are not genetically gifted in the calf department, there are some tactics that you can employ to maximize your lower leg development.

Calf Structure

Before you can maximize muscle gains in the calves, it is important to understand how they work and what is involved. Calf training requires a different type of intensity, not just more sets, more repetitions, more rest, etc. You have to understand what is involved to capitalize on gains. Train hard, yet smart. Use your calf muscles as well as your mind. You must focus and visualize.

The calves are composed of two major muscles, the gastrocnemius and the soleus. These two muscles add size, width, and symmetry to the lower portion of the leg. In addition, there is a smaller muscle that comes into play, the tibialis anterior. Even though it is small and may seem insignificant, it is an important muscle to develop for strength, size, power, endurance, and shape.

The Gastrocnemius

The gastrocnemius is the larger of the two major calf muscles and it gives shape to the rear lower leg. It is located at the top back of the lower leg and it extends from the knee joint to the ankle joint. It is composed of two heads (medial and lateral) that lie next to each other. The gastrocnemius can be easily seen when it is well developed and accompanied with low body fat. This muscle portrays that well-known diamond shape or the appearance of an upside down heart.

Best Targeted

The gastrocnemius is best targeted with straight legged-heel raises, such as donkey calf raises and standing calf raises. Some people put a slight bend in their legs to relive some pressure, but this will only target the soleus more, putting less emphasis on the gastrocnemius. If you are going to train the gastrocnemius, lock your knees to target it solely. Dont bring other muscles into play.

Donkey raises are superior to standing calf raises due to the position it puts you in. The gastrocnemius ties in with the hamstrings at the back of the leg. When you are in the bent over position, the hamstrings and gastrocnemius are stretched out, giving the donkey calf raise an advantage over standing calf raises, due to the intensity and localization.

The gastrocnemius muscle responds well to heavy poundage, using more sets and fewer repetitions, due to the great number of fast-twitch (white) muscle fibers.

The Soleus

The soleus is the smaller, yet slightly wider, of the two major calf muscles. It is not visible because it lies under the gastrocnemius. The soleus muscle gives width to the back of the lower leg.

The soleus comes into play in many endurance activities. The gastrocnemius usually has a lot of fast-twitch muscle fibers or an equal number of fast and slow-twitch fibers. This allows the soleus to take over in many cases when the gastrocnemius becomes fatigued.

How many times have you done endless sets and repetitions of straight-legged calf raises with nothing to show for it? Straight-legged calf exercises build power and strength. If you want to build larger calves you must put effort and focus into training the soleus as well.

Best Targeted

The soleus can be best trained with any bent-knee exercises, such as seated calf raises. The gastrocnemius is not strongly involved in this movement.

The soleus responds well to light weight, fewer sets, and more repetitions since it is composed mainly of slow-twitch muscle fibers (red).

Tibialis

The anterior tibialis is located at the front portion of the lower leg. A well-developed anterior tibialis adds more depth and symmetry. It will make your calves appear larger from the front and side.

Best Targeted

This overlooked muscle can be best trained with toe raises. Simply place the heel of your foot on a platform, such as a weight plate placed on the floor. Place a dumbbell across your foot and raise your toes as high as you can in a controlled fashion. Lower and repeat.

Finisher

Rebound training is a great finisher for a calf routine. It is simply jumping rope or jumping onto and off a box, landing on the balls of your feet. This will give your calves a good burn and an electrifying pump. Finish off with one set of as many as possible.

Maximizing Gains

Grab on to something supportive and do a calf raise. Use your own bodys resistance and push down, adding pressure to the calves. Hold the contraction for as long as possible. Repeat three to four more times.

How many times have you seen lifters using the popular toes-in and toes-out approach to calf training? Were you intrigued? Did you know that it is a complete waste of time and energy since all the muscle fibers run in the same direction? It is also dangerous to internally and externally rotate your ankle or knee. The ball-and-socket joint in the hip allows for the foot rotation, and it produces zero emphasis on the calves since there is no calf muscle that crosses the hip joint. Those who claim they feel the difference has nothing to do with the external or internal rotation of the hip, but rather bad form and excessive poundage. The secret to targeting the different areas of the calf muscle is to angle the pressure by rolling over on your big toe (inversion) or rolling over on your little toes (eversion). You should be angling the soles of your feet. Targeting has everything to do with form and technique, not rotating the knees. At least with angling you can actually take advantage of a movement that occurs in the ankle. Rolling over on the big toe will stress the lateral head more, while rolling over on the smaller toes will direct more of the resistance to the medial head. Roll and angle the pressure rather than turning and twisting.

You can increases the intensity of calf training by holding the contraction at the top position for a count of two, lower to the intermediate position for a count of two and lower until your calf muscle is fully stretched, and repeat.

The soleus is largely composed of red (slow-twitch or endurance) fibers, but you can develop some of the white fibers by training the soleus in a very fast, yet controlled manner.

Train flat footed. Forget the stylish athletic shoes that give you an artificial arch. Train calves in your bare feet or wear combat boots or some other shoe that is flat in structure. If you want to build bigger calves, you are going to have to get to the bottom of things.

Lock the knees with standing and donkey raises to keep the tension on the gastrocnemius. Dont allow the tension to shift to other areas by putting a bend in your knees.

Since the calves are a very different type of muscle, they can be trained more than other muscle groups. You can train the calves every other day, unless you are sore from the previous calf training workout. You can also split up your gastrocnemius and soleus training so you are training them separately.

Most folks know that networking is a key to success. We want and need to know people with whom we do business, and most of us enjoy meeting new people for our social circle as well. No "networking" event is, in and of itself, worthwhile. It's what happens afterward that makes the difference. Networking isn't about getting business on the spot, it's about developing relationships that will lead to business, directly or indirectly, down the road. Networking almost always requires the long-term approach.

But how do you begin?

Joining a "networking group" can be an intimidating step, but it doesn't have to be. Here are some basics to get you started.

Make time and do it. "Someday" and "later" have a way of never happening.
Be prepared with something to say. Know what the big news story is, the key sports results, and have a positive or thoughtful comment.
Be prepared to introduce yourself in 15-20 seconds. Without stumbling. This is usually called the "elevator speech." Make it interesting. If it's boring to say, it's boring to hear.
Carry business cards and have them easily accessible.....
....But don't offer indiscriminately them at the beginning of a conversation! It's far better to chat for a while, to know someone about the person, and then to ask for his or her business card. What if, horror of horrors, they don't reciprocate and ask for yours? Not a problem. Send them one when you follow up after the event.
When someone offers you a business card, look at it before you put it away. A card is our tangible persona. Notice it, accord it due respect, and then carefully put it away.
Pay attention to the conversation. Don't be one of the "power networkers" always looking over the shoulder of your conversational companion, looking for someone more interesting.
Listen. Really listen. When your companion is talking, that's your signal to listen to what they're saying, not to be composing your witty rejoinder. Listening is the antidote for nervousness, especially for introverts, because your entire focus is on the speaker - and his focus is on himself, too!
Think about how you can help the person you're talking with. Make a contact, offer a lead, or just ask how you might recognize a terrific potential client/customer for her.
Don't assume someone you're talking to can't help you. A conversation may not lead directly to business, but you have no idea who that person may know or where they'll end up next.
Set your intentions before you go (i.e., I will leave with 3 business cards of people I plan to contact again). And aim for quality over quantity.
Follow up afterward.

If you use these tactics, your first networking meeting will be a successful and, perhaps, even an enjoyable event that will encourage you to keep coming back.

Becoming a Super Affiliate takes time, though. It does not happen overnight. It does not mean you have to go out and find 37 products on Clickbank and start linking them on every blog. That type of stuff is not productive. Sure, I'm sure "so and so" made a few sales while unethically spamming blogs... but it's counter-productive in the long run.

Research is the key to success. Research is why 90% of Affiliates fail to be successful in their Affiliate Business. Research is the x-factor in becoming a successful affiliate.

So why are you failing as an Affiliate? Because you're not doing your research. Shake your head, stomp your feet, think of rebuttal's. But the fact is - if you had done your research properly - you would not be reading this article, right? Right... so let's get a little more in depth here.

How is your research being performed? Are you using Keyword Tools and that's it? If so - shut them down and follow me.

Pick up a magazine. Look through all of the advertisements throughout the magazine. See anything DIFFERENT from the norm? Something not so competitive? Or do you get one of those "gut feelings"?

Good... pick a niche and now let's head over to Google. Do a few "creative" searches by choosing a Keyword that YOU, an unknowing searcher, would search with. What are the results? Does the Market seem to be too competitive? If so, no worries. We can continue our research just to be sure.

Find out if there's forums for that niche. If there are, do they seem to be fairly active? What are they looking for inside those forums... as far as solutions to problems?

Give Google Trends a shot and see how the Market looks on that tool.

Also try out MSN AdLabs, it's a great tool with many options.

The bottom line is - you have too much research to do before you start doing your Keyword Research. You need to learn about the Niche before you begin throwing out "what you think" are benefits. If you are not aware of the real benefits - how do you know how to pre-sell?

Pre-selling is an art form and you need to understand that just because you've read the Merchants sales page does NOT mean you now know your niche.

Study and learn. Focus on the beginning research and you will notice how quickly your Keyword Research begins and ends. Keyword Research is nothing without knowing... it's meaningless without understanding long tail keywords to choose from.

Research is the reason you will succeed. Lack of research is why you will fail.
